SYNTHESIS Center for Research and Education is the main driving force in efforts to develop and support the ecosystem of social enterprises in Cyprus.
SYNTHESIS was the first organisation in the country that has worked to promote the field of social entrepreneurship, organising in 2010 the first Conference on Social Entrepreneurship. Since then, it has organised and led numerous European Conferences, seminars, training workshops or events with the aim of raising public awareness of the field of social entrepreneurship and its potential for positive social change.
In 2015, SYNTHESIS founded "Hub Nicosia,” (www.hubnicosia.org) a social innovation hub, a co-working space, and a community of organisations with cultural, environmental or social aims. SYNTHESIS plans to expand Hub Nicosia to become a fully functional incubator for social enterprises within the next year.
In 2017 SYNTHESIS developed the policy document on developing the social enterprise ecosystem in Cyprus on behalf of the European Commission and the Government of Cyprus. The study has formed the basis of the National Action Plan which was adopted by the Council of Ministers in 2018.
Today, SYNTHESIS is driving efforts in establishing a thriving ecosystem of social enterprises which address Cyprus' social needs and unique characteristics.
